George Bald was elected mayor of the City of Somersworth in 1978. He was the youngest Mayor in the City’s history at 27 years old. He served three two-year terms, leaving office in 1982. He was hired to be the Economic Development Director for the City of Rochester and served until 1992. He then served as the Director of Economic Development for the Pease Development Authority.
In 1998, George was appointed by Governor Jeanne Shaheen, as Commissioner of the Department of Resources and Economic Development for the State of New Hampshire. He was reappointed Governor Shaheen and later appointed Commissioner by Governor Lynch. He retired from State service in November 2012.
George has served on the Board of Directors of Granite Bank, and the Pease Development Authority. He is a U.S. Navy veteran.
